Good Fortune Farm Refuge has continued the work of saving and caring for many old and sick animals. In the past year, there were 29 cats, dogs, and horses living on the premises and receiving care and comfort. Some of these pets have been sick with heart worms (successfully treated), cancer, and other serious illnesses. Homes were found for several dogs and cats, but the majority of animals at GFFR are so old and unwell, that they will live out their days at the farm.
We’ve continued to work with Animal Care Center of Mobile and SNIP in Ocean Springs to assist those who need help with spay and neuter. Funding is limited, but we do everything we can to help as many people as possible.
The extremely hot weather has impacted the horses—they are fine, but miserable. Daily rise downs with cold hose water and fans help a lot. The smaller animals spend a lot of time in the house. They love the AC.
We’re still feeding several feral cat colonies and have worked hard to make sure all the cats there are spayed and neutered. It’s the only humane way to deal with unwanted cats and dogs. We are always happy for donations to GFFR so we can help others.
For all of you with beloved pets, we urged you to make arrangements now for the care of your pet should you become ill or die. Don’t think that family members will step up, unless you have made arrangements. GFFR helps local veterinarians find homes for abandoned pets—who are totally lost and confused when their human no longer can take care of them. Please be responsible pet owners: spay/neuter and make arrangements for the creatures that depend on you.
Several local rescues are trying to put together to provide spay/neuter services for area residents on a more affordable basis. We work with rescues and help facilitate programs and changes that will benefit all pet owners in the region. When more information is available, we’ll put it on our site and FB page.
We have several new books we’re selling as a fund raiser for GFFR. Every penny received from buying products or donations is used for the animals. There are no administrative or overheads costs. It all goes directly to animal care and comfort.
